Massachusetts is #1…again!
For the fifth year in a row, Massachusetts has been named the most energy-efficient state in the nation. According to the annual state scorecard issued by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, on a scale of 100 total possible points, Massachusetts earned 44 points, edging out California by only one-half point. The big advantage for our Commonwealth was in the subcategory of utility programs, where Massachusetts’s annual electric savings target of 2.6% and gas savings of 1.1% dwarfed California’s targets and equaled or exceeded other close rival states of Vermont and Rhode Island.
Residents and property owners in Boston play a big role in making Massachusetts #1. In May, ACEEE released its scorecard for most energy-efficient cities, naming Boston #1 for the second time. Every lightbulb we switch and every basement air leak that we plug up means that much less need for new energy infrastructure. We can all take pride in this latest recognition of our smart energy choices.
