Energy Salespeople

Many people at our neighborhood workshops are asking us about energy salespeople coming to their doors or mailings that they have received from energy supply companies. While some of these companies may offer what appears to be a great discount, unfortunately, some salespeople are overly aggressive. If you’re feeling harassed, call the 911 or the Mayor’s hotline: 617-635-4500.
Eversource employees rarely make unsolicited house visits. Some exceptions include accessing utility equipment to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the distribution system, or if there is a reported safety concern. Always decline any door-to-door offer from someone claiming to be an Eversource employee. Eversource representatives will never arrive unsolicited asking for electric account information. Customers should never provide the information if someone represents himself in this way.
For those considering switching to a third-party electricity supplier, a complete list of licensed competitive suppliers in Massachusetts can be found online at mass.gov. Eversource also offers this on-line tool to compare rates. Read the fine print in the third party contract to make sure there are no fees for early termination or other hidden costs. Never share your account number until you’re sure you want to switch.
